If you’re anything like me, your fridge seems like a microcosm of its own. I try not to think about the smells coming out of it. According to reviewers of the Shelfy smart refrigerator device, an easy solution for our wilting, rotting produce and that disconcerting odor exists. The Shelfy is designed to extend the life of your food and drastically reduce odorous bacteria — in doing so cutting down on food waste and saving you more money the longer you use it. If this sounds like a no-brainer scenario, know that this promise is made even better by a 30% discount that drops the price down to just $126 — the lowest it’s been in about a month, according to one of our price trackers.
Sleek and compact, the smart freshener promises to remove the pollutants in your fridge that cause fruits and veggies to ripen, extending your food’s good-by date for up to 12 days, according to the brand — though reviewers say that timeframe is conservative and that their greens now last for several weeks longer thanks to the device. “There have been numerous times where I’ve looked in my produce drawers and been surprised that a piece of produce has stayed fresh for so long,” wrote a reviewer named Levi.
According to the brand, the device’s filter works through photocatalysis.
It’s a photosynthesis-like process in which potential contaminants are neutralized through an LED-activated filter. This limits the potential for mold and the presence of ethylene, a chemical that hastens fruit’s natural ripening process.
Beyond reducing unpleasant smells in your fridge and lengthening the lifespan of your food, the Shelfy device is particularly notable because of how effectively it reduces food waste, according to users, saving you money in the long run. As Levi wrote, “At this point, I’ve likely saved hundreds of dollars on wasted produce.” Another reviewer echoed the sentiment: “This thing has already paid for itself in three months’ time.” The tool’s filter is washable and reusable, too, putting additional money back into your pocket.
“With the cost of food nowadays,” stated a reviewer named Art, “this unit is worth its weight in gold.”
The compact tool requires four lithium ion batteries, after which you can recharge the device with the included USB-C cable. With the Shelfy, you also have access to the brand app for personalized advice on maximizing the health and hygiene of your fridge, as well as voice control through Alexa or Google Assistant.
As one person wrote, “The juice is worth the squeeze.”

“We buy a lot of organic salads and veggies at Costco.. the big problem is that they rot or spoil before we eat them. Some times it’s in a few days. This unit is a game changer. Organic bagged salads last a few weeks before they start to get slimy. With the cost of food nowadays, this unit is worth its weight in gold.” — Art Vandaley
“Works better than boxes of baking soda, which seem to work but only for a few days then you have to replace them. This is a buy it once and be done with it product that does it’s job.” — AD729
“I backed the indiegogo campaign for Shelfy a while back and have had it for over 6 months. I was skeptical, but excited about the potential of the device. Turns out, I quickly started noticing that my produce was lasting longer. Some of the estimates that Shelfy makes for how long it will increase shelf life are actually conservative. For example, I’ve had things like romaine lettuce stay fresh for about 6 weeks instead of my previous average of 2 weeks, or Apples stay fresh as long 4-6 weeks instead of about 2-3 weeks, or cucumbers last 3-4 weeks instead of a week or less. There have been numerous times where I’ve looked in my produce drawers and been surprised that a piece of produce has stayed fresh for so long. At this point, I’ve likely saved hundreds of dollars on wasted produce, and it feels good to create less waste. I also love the design and it seems solidly built. It’s great that the filter is reusable and just requires rinsing under warm water to clean. My only complaint is that the battery usually lasts only 3-ish weeks and you’re unable to get a replacement battery to swap in because the battery isn’t removable, so you have to take the device out of the fridge to charge it. It also takes about… 14-ish hours to fully charge in my experience. However, those are very minor inconveniences and overall this device has really impressed me and has been more than worth the money. I have recommended it to multiple friends and family members.” — Levi Barrie
“Had a frig fresher that used 4 C batteries that always needed to be replaced. Saw this rechargeable solution which I purchased to replace the old battery unit. I noticed immediately the superior performance of the Vitesy Shelfy with multiple settings, quiet performance, automatic on/off operation in the frig and love the fact that all I need to do is recharge once a week from the USB port in my kitchen power outlet. Love it, highly recommend.” — Larry
