Presenter skewered a politician over rising energy bills this morning on . The ITV star was at the helm of the show, alongside co-star Ed Balls, when they welcomed on Environment Secretary Steve Reed.

They touched on the topic of gas and electricity bills, with prices expected to soar once more at the beginning of April.

Susanna held the MP accountable as she said: “You promised you would save families hundreds of pounds on their bills in the short term. 2030 does not feel like the short term. And in fact it is not true. Prices have gone up.”

The squirming politican struggled to get his words out as he replied: “What you’re describing, Susanna, are the vagueries of a system that is based on fossil fuel…”

Susanna yelled over him as she said: “No what I’m describing is a manifesto pledge, that you haven’t kept.” Defending himself, Mr Reed responded: “No one ever said it was going to happen over night.”

But once more the GMB host interrupted as she spoke over him, reading from the manifesto. “We will save families hundreds of pounds on their bills,” she read. “Not just in the short term.”

The politician admitted that “nobody thought we could do that in seven months,” so Susanna questioned if it was a “mistake” to say “in the short term”.

Mr Reed deflected as he said that getting clean energy by 2030 is “pretty quick when you’re looking at the state of things that we inherited”.

Susanna did not stop putting pressure on the MP as she stated: “But in the short term, price is going up. That’s a fact, isn’t it?”

Don’t miss… [REACTION] [UPDATE]

Fans at home were not convinced by Mr Reed’s responses either. Posting to X/Twitter, one said: “Same old lie and hike up everything.”

Another added: “There is a reason why no other country is aiming for 2030, in fact all large economies withdrawn from Paris Agreement and didn’t attend COP and let’s deal in facts, the offshore wind farms only accepted your licence after you doubled the amount of subsidy they’ll receive!!!”

A third fumed: “Why do you even bother talking to these Labour MPs! It’s all waffle like the promises before the GE which they’ve now gone back on. They’ll be a one term govt and then gone! Lost the trust of the public in record time.”
