Police say homicide investigators took over after the man died five days after being left severely injured in Surrey’s Crescent Beach area
Homicide investigators have been called in after an Abbotsford kidnapping ended in murder.
Abbotsford police responded to a suspicious incident in the 2900-block of Victoria Street shortly before 2 a.m. on Jan. 27. Witnesses reported seeing a man being attacked before being taken away in a vehicle.
About three hours later, the 19-year-old victim was found in the Crescent Beach area of Surrey with severe injuries.
He was taken to hospital but, on Feb. 1, the victim died, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took over.
“The victim had his whole life ahead of him and, sadly, his family is now left in grief with many unanswered questions,” said IHIT Sgt. Freda Fong in a statement.
“You can expect investigators to be in the area canvassing for video evidence. A number of witness interviews are underway in an effort to determine the motivation behind the attack.”
Fong said it appears the victim was targeted and there is no risk to the public.
