The defender has already travelled to the Netherlands to thrash out the final details of the move, according to . The window for Dutch clubs to sign players will be open until Tuesday night, meaning there is still time to get things done.
Malacia was initially expected to join Benfica on a temporary basis, but the move fell through when negotiations broke down last week.
The defender has been restricted to just eight appearances in all competitions for United this season. His time at Old Trafford has been plagued by injuries, with the 25-year-old missing almost the entirety of the previous campaign after undergoing surgery. He has also been knocked down the pecking order following Dorgu’s arrival, with the Denmark international expected to become United’s first choice on the left side of defence.
Amorim recently cast doubt over Malacia’s future with the Red Devils, suggesting that he lacks the attacking quality to play as a wing-back in his system.
Don’t miss… [COMMENT]
“What I know is that it’s really hard on him,” said the United boss when quizzed on Malacia’s lack of action this season. “It is a long time without playing, and then it’s hard to play a lot of games.
“A player like him is a full-back. He played with the national team outside and inside, but sometimes in this system, sometimes it’s hard for him because he’s not so offensive.
“He can play as one of the three defenders, if we have more possession and more control of the games. It’s a really difficult context for him. But he’s our player and we are going to help him.”
Malacia has struggled to impose himself since arriving at Old Trafford three years ago and has now been deemed surplus to requirements. However, it remains to be seen if a productive loan spell at PSV will change things ahead of next season.
