One of most respected has urged drivers to buy a £25 product that could solve it in minutes.

has been a for more than 55 years and regularly posts videos to his YouTube channel in which he shares ways drivers can reduce their motoring bills and .

In , Scotty suggested that owners of cars that have an oil leak use a re-sealing additive, which can help to revive worn-out rubber.

He explained: “Today I’m going to show you how a little bottle of sealer might be able to fix oil leaks on your car. It’s called AT205 Re-Seal. You can see it’s clear, but it’s not water – it’s a liquid polymer.

“Now, if you pour it into an engine that has rubber oil seal leaks, it can fix them. Here is a rubber oil seal, and the liquid can rejuvenate the rubber and stop the leak.”

Whilst Scotty highlighted that the product is unable to fix failing metal components, such as a worn-out head gasket, re-sealing additives are able to plug small leaks within worn-out rubber components.

This can be particularly useful if a car is suffering from oil leaks, which should be addressed as soon as possible to prevent the risk of engine components not getting the lubrication they need.

Bottles of re-sealing additive are typically sold at most motoring accessory shops for around £25, with drivers able to add a small amount into the engine, transmission, or power steering fluids in a bid to rectify faults.

Later in the video, Scotty highlighted that the additive can only work on small leaks, but is worth trying before having to take their vehicle to a mechanic.

He warned: “You can pour it in engine oil, even power steering systems, and it won’t hurt the system. But, realise one thing – it’s not a miracle.

“If the gasket is actually broken apart or has fallen out of its hole, this isn’t going to fix anything. But, let’s say that the rear main oil seal of your engine is leaking, trying this first sure beats pulling the engine out of the car and replacing it!”

Similarly, drivers who are experiencing a lack of power or increased fuel consumption can also buy an additive which can be mixed with petrol and diesel.

Fuel additives are typically available at supermarkets and motoring shops for around £5 per bottle, and feature detergents which can clean the vehicle’s fuel system.

Whilst the fluid will fail to solve significant issues with vehicles, motorists who use fuel additives are likely to experience smoother idling, better performance, and lower emissions.
