has set a challenge for amateur darts players across the country to beat him in a game of ‘Around the Clock’, with a cash prize on offer to the winner.

Humphries has established himself as the number one darts player in the world, with the 29-year-old sitting comfortably at the top of the PDC Order of Merit.

While he might’ve lost his Ally Pally crown to the new kid on the block Luke Littler earlier this year, Humphries reaffirmed his position as the world No.1 with victory at the revamped World Masters in Milton Keynes last weekend.

Narrowly edging a 6-5 final against former champion Jonny Clayton, Humphries banked a handsome £100,000 to extend his lead at the top of the world rankings.

But now he’s giving darts players up and down the United Kingdom a chance to get the better of him as part of the ‘Cool Hand Cup’.

Marston’s Brewery has teamed up with the darts ace for the challenge, which will see Humphries set a time to beat in ‘Around the Clock’, before players in pubs across the country give it a go themselves.

The top two players on each regional leaderboard will be whisked away by Marston’s to compete in a Grand Final, before the field is eventually whittled down to just one player.

That star arrowsmith will earn a bumper prize of £5,000 in cash, £180 Marston’s Love My Local gift card, a set of Luke Humphries Red Dragon darts and the prestigious Cool Hand Cup trophy.

But it doesn’t stop there, as the victor will also earn the chance to take on Humphries himself in a showdown match against Cool Hand for the night’s final match.

Commenting on the venture, Neil Campbell, Chief Operating Officer at Marston’s, said: “We’ve seen the popularity of darts skyrocket in the last year, with new and exciting breakthrough players and the return of Bullseye.

“Dart boards are at the heart of so many of our pubs across the UK and we’re so excited to team up with Luke Humphries to give our guests an even bigger reason to visit and try their hand at winning a truly money-can’t-buy prize. Let the games begin!”

The Cool Hand Cup will take place in over 700 pubs in the UK and will run between 3 February and 13 March.
