Amandaland cast in full as Doc Martin and Absolutely Fabulous stars join Motherland sequel

Amandaland is coming to BBC iPlayer and BBC One, and the comedy series sees Lucy Punch return as uptight mother, Amanda. Since the events of Motherland, she must navigate raising teenagers after moving to South Harlesden in London.

The spin-off was commissioned in the summer of 2024 with some of the original Motherland cast reprising their roles. The series is made up of six episodes and will be available to watch on iPlayer as a boxset from February 5.

The synopsis reads: “With both Manus and Georgie now at secondary school, Amanda has to try and get her head around raising teenagers, dealing with modern motherhood horrors like teenage drinking, fake accounts and eco anxiety.

“Not even a woman as certain of her parenting as Amanda can deal with these nightmares alone. “Then there’s Amanda’s mother Felicity who is constantly around, and completely in denial that she is, in fact, lonely.”

Amanda – Lucy Punch

Lucy Punch is a 47-year-old English actress known for her roles in Hot Fuzz, Bad Teacher and A Series of Unfortunate Events.

She performed with the National Youth Theatre from 1993 to 1997 and made her acting debut a year later in The New Adventures of Robin Hood.

She is known to have dated actor and film director James D’Arcy for a few years after they met on the set of the film Come Together in 2002.

She has a son, Rex, who was born in July 2015.

The star ended up moving to the US, having living in Los Angeles for more than 15 years, after claiming: “I kept getting cast as posh idiots.”

She added: “I was like: ‘This is boring. I know I can do more than this.’”

Felicity – Joanna Lumley

Joanna Lumley returns as Amanda’s mother and she is a 78-year-old British actress, presenter and former model.

She is best known for playing Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous and went on to star in and The New Avengers.

She spent three years working as a model in the 60s, mostly for photographer Brian Duffy.

In February 2013, she was ranked as one of the 100 most influential women in the UK by Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.

In 1967 she had a son with photographer Michael Claydon and was then briefly married to actor Jeremy Lloyd.

In 1986 she married conductor Stephen Barlow.

Anne – Philippa Dunne

Philippa Dunne reprises her role as Anne and she is an Irish actress and writer known for her work on The Walshes.

She is also known for playing Geraldine Devlin in Derry Girls and Ria in This Is Going to Hurt.

She is married and has a child who was born in 2020, who actually starred as Anne’s daughter Niamh in Motherland.

Mal – Samuel Anderson

Mal is played by Samuel Anderson, a 42-year-old English actor known for his roles as Crowther in The History Boys and Ross Kirk in .

His credits also include Doctor Who and Trollied.

Della – Siobhan McSweeney

Siobhan McSweeney is a 45-year-old Irish actress and presenter known for playing Sister Michael in Derry Girls.

Before acting, she actually studied for a science degree at the University College Cork.

Outside of acting, she stars as the presenter on The Great Pottery Throw Down.

She experienced some personal trauma in 2019 when her flat in London caught fire due to an adaptor that had fallen out of a socket.

She was thankfully out at the time but admitted to developing anxiety after the incident.

Fi – Rochenda Sandall

Fi is played by Rochenda Sandall, a 35-year-old British actress known for playing Lisa McQueen in Line of Duty.

Viewers may also recognise her as Detective Constable Vanessa Warren in Criminal: UK.

It was on this show that she met fellow actor Mark Stanley and the pair were reported to have been in a long-term relationship.

JJ – Ekow Quartey

JJ is played by Ekow Quartey, a 34-year-old British actor known for playing Bem in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

The character to this day is named one of the greatest and most underrated characters, for his profound one-liners including: “It’s like trying to catch smoke with your bare hands.”

He went on to star in Becoming Elizabeth and This Way Up.

Johannes – Peter Serafinowicz

Johannes is played by Peter Serafinowicz, a 52-year-old English actor and comedian known for being the voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

He also played Pete in Shaun of the Dead and Garthan Saal in Guardians of the Galaxy.

The actor created and starred in the comedy shows Look Around You and The Peter Serafinowicz Show.

He is married to actress Sarah Alexander and he has a son and daughter.
