Schools on the Greek island of Santorini have been forced to close after reports of “seismic activity”.
Tremors reaching up to 4.9 in magnitude were recorded northeast of the island on Monday, with recent days also seeing quakes of 4.3 and 3.9 magnitude reported in the vicinity.
Authorities have also recommended avoiding “large gatherings in enclosed spaces” across the island, a renowned tourist destination famous for its whitewashed buildings and blue-domed churches.
Schools were also told to close on the nearby islands of Anafi, Ios, and Amorgos.
According to the University of Athens’ Seismological Laboratory, more than 200 earthquakes were reported across Greek islands in the past 48 hours.
