Think Hoka Is Just For Running Shoes? Think Again.

Hoka
In addition to its popular running shoes, Hoka sells apparel, hiking shoes, recovery shoes and more.

Since bursting onto the footwear scene, Hoka has become synonymous with ultra-comfortable walking and running shoes, like the podiatrist-recommended Bondi sneaker and the under-the-radar Solimar (my personal favorite). But even as a Hoka fan, I hadn’t realized that the brand makes so much more than running and walking shoes, and now I’m making it my duty to spread the good word to you, too.

Even if you’re not on the hunt for sneakers, you can find hiking shoes, mocs and more that are similarly made to be comfortable, supportive and stylish. And Hoka offers apparel and accessories worth knowing about. Below, check out some of the Hoka bestsellers you might have missed if you’d written the brand off as a sneaker company. (Note: While we’ve included a few different retailers in this story, all of the reviews here are from the Hoka website.)

A pair of recovery slides that reviewers say are great for plantar fasciitis

Though it’s not quite as cozy-looking as a pair of slippers, the Ora Recovery Slide 3 is a popular shoe for casual downtime, with 4.1 stars across more than 2,700 reviews. This model has also earned a seal of acceptance from the APMA, and it features ventilated air flow channels on the top with a plush cushion and dual-density geometry on the bottom. Part of the fun of these is also the colors they come in, from neutrals, like the classic black shown here, to pastels and neons. Grab a pair in unisex sizes M3/W5 to M14/W16.

Promising review: “I basically wear these all day in the house as slippers and have another pair, for outside, for casual. My fasciitis attacks are almost nonexistent now. Wonderful cushioning.” — Lana

The Transport Chukka GTX, which works as a hiking or lifestyle shoe

A popular hiking shoe is the Transport Chukka GTX, which doesn’t totally look like a hiking shoe and can in fact fit right in with your daily shoe rotation for everyday wear. The shoes can be slipped on and off with quick-toggle laces, have a higher knit collar that protects and wraps the ankles, are waterproof and are highly visible with 360 degrees of reflectivity. Get the men’s version in six colors and sizes 7-15 or the women’s in five colors and sizes 5-11.

Promising review: “I absolutely love these! They fit so comfortably, good support, traction and easy to get on an off! I got them for Christmas and they are perfect for winter snow-walking, hiking or running errands around town! I have an older version of Hoka’s which I really like too but the ease of getting these on and off is the best!” — DZ

The Bondi SR, designed for nurses and other professionals who stand for hours

The Bondi SR is a slightly different take on Hoka’s ultra-cushy Bondi running shoe model: Instead of running, it’s made for comfort and recovery. The SR has a seal of acceptance from the American Podiatric Medical Association and is primarily designed for those working in the service and medical industry who have to stand for long periods. The shoe is designed with a water-resistant leather upper and slip-resistant rubber outsole for traction. It’s also one of the most plush shoes Hoka makes — just look at the cushion on that silhouette. You can grab a pair in seven colors in men’s sizes 7-15 or four colors in men’s sizes 7W-15W. As for women’s sizes, seven colors are available in sizes 5-11 or five colors in 5W-11W.

Promising review: “This is the best Hoka shoe I have had yet. I work as a rehab assistant in a hospital on an acute busy unit. So I needed a shoe that was comfortable and would protect my feet and the none slip sole of this shoe is great. I walk quite a lot with my job and my feet never hurt in these shoes. I would recommend this pair of shoes to anyone of my friends that work in a medical field.” — Zilke

The lightweight and breathable Hopara 2 hiking sandals

Hiking fans who often wade through wetter environments may enjoy the Hopara 2 model, which is like a closed-toe sandal with a sock-like fit and mesh overlay. The shoe is easy to slip on and off, has an adjustable heel strap and laces, and is quick-dry and water repellent. The rubber outsole is sticky for grip in wet and dry conditions, so you can feel confident trekking through mud or on trails. The men’s version comes in three colors and sizes 7-14, and the women’s comes in four colors and sizes 5-11.

Promising review: “I had version one of these for around 3 years and loved them. They unfortunately but expectedly lost all cushion and grip. I just replaced them with these and love them perhaps even more Already took them on several 4 mile hikes. They didn’t rub at all and were lightweight and comfortable. I would highly recommend these for warmer weather hiking and walking.” — 3Hounds

The hoodie a reviewer says is like “a cloud swallowed you whole”

Available in four colorways and unisex sizes XXS-XL, this cozy hoodie is made with brushed-back fleece that reviewers have vouched for as cloud-like. Other features include a double-layered hood with an internal draw cord and a pocket within a pocket (the kangaroo pocket has another smaller mesh pocket inside). Note that it’s meant to have an oversized, relaxed fit.

Promising review: “I am a 5’6 125lbs woman who purchased a size medium in papaya:) I LOVE this hoodie. It’s like a cloud swallowed you whole. I’ve been looking for a hoodie like this one for years and haven’t been able to find one until this one!! The hoodie passed my “squish” test when it comes to the fabric & thickness and the little drawstring at the hood is perfect. The hood feels like the fabric is folded in half so it’s double lined and the fuzz doesn’t actually touch your hair (love)! I actually only got the medium since it was the only size offered where I live but it feels so cozy. It also has a mini pocket INSIDE the big pocket which I thought was a great touch. The only way this hoodie could be any more perfect to me is if there were a little drawstring on the bottom to make the size a little more adjustable (I’d make it tighter because it’s like a hug FR). The price made me a little wide eyed when I first saw if but after buying it I’m so glad I splurged since I don’t usually invest in clothes and this was pricey for me. Love the color, fit, everything.” — Ry

It also comes in a short-sleeve and tank version (you can toggle over to them under the “Model” section on the product page), so you can rock this light, quick-dry material in all types of weather.

Promising review: “I wear this long-sleeve shirt for indoor HIIT and it is perfect. It’s moisture wicking and lightweight. I was concerned with the breathability of the fabric but I wore it twice and rowing, running, and lifting all felt great. Highly recommended, not only for runners!” — PT
