GB News’ Eamonn Holmes sparks fury with ‘disgusting’ climate change fears remark

’ sparked backlash for his controversial comments about a new study focused on anxiety within children.

His co-host Ellie Costello explained: “Eco anxiety is now on the rise in young people; almost 4-in-5 children under 12 are anxious about the climate.”

Eamonn added: “And do you know what I think? So they should be; meanwhile, 70% of primary school teachers are concerned that they don’t have enough time to educate the students on this matter.

“So, should we feel anxious towards changes in the environment? Yes, I do think we should, and I think children should be anxious about it,” he added.

However, his remarks sparked major fury among viewers, including one who raged: “Disgusting to put children in fear … whatever the problem, it’s not theirs to worry about.”

Another stated, “Eamonn, I’ll tell you why children shouldn’t be made anxious over climate change. My granddaughter couldn’t sleep at night because she had been told London would be underwater one day.”

A third viewer fumed: “I genuinely thought Eamon was being sarcastic about ‘eco-anxiety’ I can’t believe a grown man has just said ‘good, so they should’ about children being frightened by the eco loons. SHAME ON YOU EAMON.”

One viewer exclaimed: “THERE IS NO CLIMATE CHANGE ONLY A NATURAL CYCLE.”

As a fourth claimed: “Eco anxiety, a fabricated syndrome created by left-wing fanatics, to indoctrinate the weak-minded and vulnerable. In other words, groomers.”

The presenters welcomed Christian Dunn, a professor at Bangor University and director of Future Cities Project, Austin Williams, to debate the findings.

Christian admitted: “I’m not particularly shocked by it; I don’t like that fact that it’s going to be branded as an anxiety. I’ve got two young kids, and I wouldn’t say they’re anxious about it, but they want to do something about it.

“They’re aware that there are problems and they actually want to do something about it, and I think that’s only a positive thing, being aware of a very serious problem and wanting to do something about it.”

Eamonn injected: “Totally with you, Christian … there’s nobody doing much about it in our generation, and it’s going to be up to them, so why shouldn’t they?”

When questioned: “Why shouldn’t they be anxious about it,” Austin responded: “I don’t it’s a necessarily healthy response, is why. We’ve already got climate change which is part of the national curriculum taught in most subjects.”
