A new Boyzone documentary delves into their feuds
Boyzone fans have been heartbroken after watching a new explosive documentary about the chart-topping Irish boyband.
The documentary Boyzone: No Matter What delves into the highs and lows of the band’s illustrious career. It features archive footage and new interviews with Keith Duffy, Stephen Gately, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch, and the band’s manager, Louis Walsh.
During their 19 years together, they enjoyed massive success in the UK, with 21 singles in the top 40 and 22 in the Irish charts, including six UK No1 singles and nine in Ireland.
However, the lads struggled to get along behind the scenes, and internal disputes plagued the group. They eventually split for good after a 2019 farewell tour.
In the final episode of the series, cameras capture Ronan, Keith and Shane as they reunite for a friendly pint – but Mikey is noticeably absent. The documentary does not shy away from discussing Mikey’s struggles with his mental health during the band’s heyday.
Louis Walsh reflected on the band’s popularity.
In a video clip, Mikey explains that he has moved on from Boyzone and left it in the past. He states, “I wish them all the best, no grudges, no animosity, nothing.”
The documentary also reveals a clear divide between Ronan, Mikey, and Keith and Shane during the band’s farewell tour.
The former pair were frustrated by the latter’s partying, feeling they weren’t taking the tour or their performances seriously.
“However, I don’t want to return to how I felt for many years. Seeing them, if it were too long, would remind me of that. My future is too important to waste it looking back at my past, but I wish everybody well.”
Don’t miss… [NEWS] [UPDATE]
The band are now estranged from former member Mikey Graham.
Ronan revealed: “They had been out all day, drinking all day and it was messy,” which Keith echoed with: “We’d certainly partied a little harder than we usually did – it was the end of the road.”
But it appears that the tensions escalated, resulting in the fiercest dressing room argument between Keith and Mikey.
The details haven’t been fully disclosed, leaving both parties with lasting marks; Keith admits reluctance to dive into the specifics.
“There were things that had happened that were cruel and I’m not going to express any more than that. One of my biggest regrets is how much I clashed with Mikey.”
Similarly reserved, Mikey did not discuss details, commenting: “I just wanted to get out and escape that toxic environment.
“It didn’t have to be that way if we all had better skills at understanding each other better. I am so grateful for all I have endured, good and bad, because it has made me the man I am today.”
Shane also disclosed his estrangement from Mikey, noting they haven’t communicated in four years. Mikey, now leading a quiet life in Ireland, notably skipped the show’s official screening last week.
