With the right conditions and care, you can enjoy a stunning show of flowers in your home all year-round.
A balanced fertiliser specifically designed for orchids will help provide the nutrients needed for growth and flower production.
“Fertilising during the growing season is an important step in encouraging larger, more vibrant blooms,” explained the expert.
Alongside fertilising, ensuring your orchid has the right temperature – neither too hot nor too cold – is vital for its overall health and bloom quality.

The potting medium you choose can make a huge difference to the health of your orchid. Orchids do not thrive in regular potting soil.
“Avoid using standard soil for all orchids,” highlighted the expert, noting that many varieties do best in bark or moss-based mixtures.
Spring is the perfect time to repot your plant, which should be done every couple of years.
This is also a great opportunity to check the roots for any signs of decay, as healthy roots are essential for a healthy orchid, which in turn supports the growth of large, vibrant flowers.
To replicate their native tropical habitat, orchids also need the right level of humidity. Many people simply rely on the natural humidity in their homes, but there are ways to increase it if necessary.
“A simple way to enhance humidity is by misting the plant with lukewarm, filtered water in the morning,” suggested the plant care guru. However, it’s crucial to let the leaves dry afterward to prevent moisture from sitting on the foliage.
Alternatively, you can place your orchid on a shallow tray filled with pebbles and water. As the water evaporates, it creates a humid microclimate, encouraging growth and beautiful blooms.
