Since began dating Prince Harry in 2016, the monarchy has faced some big changes, especially since the pair’s 2018 Windsor wedding.
As well as no longer being a working member of the Royal Family as a result of a decision made by himself and Meghan to step back in 2020, certain traditions were also changed as a result of the former actress’ brief stint as a senior royal.
This includes who is entitled to spend Christmas Day at Sandringham, with Meghan being the first fiancee to attend the Royal Family’s festivities before being married to a royal.
While Princess Kate had to wait until she was married to in 2011 to spend Christmas Day with the Royal Family, with Mike Tindall subject to the same rules before his wedding to Zara Tindall, this was not the case for Meghan, who appeared at Sandringham on Christmas Day months before her wedding.
This is believed to be a result of her family living across the pond, coupled with the fact that the duchess was already living with at Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace at the time.

As a result of this change in tradition, other partners of members of the Royal Family have since been able to attend the Christmas Day celebrations before getting married, including ‘s husband.
Before they married in 2020, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi joined the Christmas celebrations with the senior royals in 2019 after their engagement was announced, and was seen attending the service with his partner’s family.
This was despite the fact they were not yet married, with their wedding taking place in 2020.
Last year, another royal was also permitted to bring their partner to the Christmas celebrations, a decision which would have been approved by the King despite the fact the couple are not married.

Princess Margaret’s grandson who he had been dating since 2021, spending Christmas with his royal relatives as they headed to the church in Sandringham.
This came as a surprise to royal fans, with some believing it could be a sign that a royal wedding is near.
This has not been confirmed by the Royal Family.
