Leaving the price sticker on, misspelling names and lousy jokes on the front are the UK’s top Valentine’s card-giving blunders, the Daily Express can reveal.

A study of 2,000 Brits from greeting card retailer Scribbler unveiled the nation’s biggest Valentine’s ‘icks’ – with almost a quarter (24 per cent) judging a potential new partner for a card faux-pas.

A staggering third of Britons said they have received a Valentine’s card with the price sticker, such as ’99p’, still attached on the back.

Other blunders include crossing out the card’s message (22 per cent), receiving it after 14th February (19 per cent), or a card filled with confetti (18 per cent) according to the study.

But choosing the wrong card in the first place can be just as off-putting, with 18 percent saying an embarrassing photo on the front is the biggest fail.

When it comes to romantic card giving, 42 percent of Brits believe if you send one, you should receive one in return.

Failing to do so can leave a bad taste, with 24 percent of 18-to 24-year-olds admitting they have stopped talking to a loved one because they didn’t receive a card.

Tom Procter, commercial director at Scribbler, said: “We’ve all received a Valentine’s Day card with the price left on, or a cringey joke on the front.

“Although it’s a common mistake, it’s one which if repeated, can leave the receiver not feeling very special on what is supposed to be the most romantic day of the year.

“With Valentine’s cards providing the perfect way to show appreciation for a loved one, we want it to be a joyful experience for buyers and receivers, by keeping the process as quick and stress-free as possible.

“Our self-serve greeting card kiosks allow customers to find the perfect card design to suit the recipient, printed instantly without price stickers – so your partner won’t know how much you paid for it.”
