‘I won MasterChef and Gregg Wallace showed his true colours with one move’

: The Professionals will “never forget” host Gregg Wallace’s “true colours”.

The star admitted he will “never forget” ‘s heartfelt gesture for his dying father during his appearance on the show.

Speaking exclusively to the 2020 winner of the cooking show declined to comment on the recent scandals surrounding the presenter but instead shared his touching anecdote.

“I don’t really want to comment on it [the furore], but I can only speak from personal experience and my dad passed away just after the show, so luckily he got to watch the show.

“But Greg did a lovely message for him, and he sent it to him at Christmas time. So having Christmas, and dad was in hospital, and so things like that, he did a lovely message, and I’ll never forget that.

“And he [his dad] said, ‘Thank you so much, make sure you thank him’. So he was really lovely for that,” Alex reflected.

Alex’s father Phillip sadly lost his battle with lung cancer is 2022 and died aged just 61.

Gregg has since stepped down from his role as judge on the show while allegations of “inappropriate behaviour” are investigated. Food critic Grace Dent has been announced as his replacement and Alex thinks she will do a great job.

“Grace Dent is obviously the new the new judge (and) she was actually on my series, and she was really great. So I’m sure she’ll do really well,” he said.

Alex sweetly confessed when he went on the show his plan wasn’t to win. He just wanted to make the final three so that the team would come and film in his parents home.

“I went there to kind of have fun and compete, and I never thought, ‘Oh, I’m going to win this’. My thing was I wanted wanted to get to the final three so then the cameras would come back to my mum and dad’s house. That was my, that was my kind of thing,” he smiled.

Since his win his career has gone from strength to strength. He is working towards opening his own restaurant, has numerous private clients, a once a year residency in the Maldives and his own cider Alex Webb Signature Blend.

He is also teaming up with the other 2020 finalists to mark the 35th anniversary of the show with a pop up restaurant on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd February.

He will be joined by Santosh Shah, Philli Armitage-Mattin, Bart Van der Lee and Vivek Singh for a Fantastic Five Supper Club at Cinnamon Kitchen City on Devonshire Square.

Revealing that they have a WhatsApp group since the show he said: “We’ve kept in contact and we get on really well.”
