Coffee truly makes the world go round, especially when you haven’t had enough sleep.

There’s no real substitute for a good night’s rest, and adults should be ensuring that they get seven to nine hours of it a night – but is a close second, so that morning visit to your favourite chain can seem sacred.

Internationally, over 1 billion people drink coffee on a daily basis, which is wild, and people are always discussing how much they love coffee on social media, sharing what their favourite types are. But did you know that there’s a coffee shop chain worth a whopping $30billion (£24million)?

And, for those who immediately thought it must be taking the top spot – it’s not.

Although they’re not too far behind, and in the UK, they’re actually the most popular according to Statista.

They share: “Coffeehouse chain Costa Limited generated a revenue of over 1.1billion British pounds in the United Kingdom in 2022.

“This was over twice as much as the revenue of two of its major competitors in the UK: Coffee Company (UK) Limited and the Caffè Nero Group”.

Cafe Nero has been bought by the Coca-Cola company, so its worldwide net worth is unknown, but in the UK, it’s thought to be worth £5.3billion. Costa Coffee is the largest branded coffee chain in the UK, with a 26% share of the market.

But who is sitting at the top spot of the global market?

If you thought it was Pret A Manger, then you were wrong, as it made £1.1billion in sales, thanks to its international expansion. But it’s not quite the net worth of $30b that one coffee shop chain boasts.

So which could it be? If you guessed Starbucks, then you’d be right. According to Coffee Intelligence, Starbucks has a net worth of $32.25 billion (£26 billion) and a US market share of 37%.

Investopedia said this is thanks to its growth from a Seattle coffee shop into the world’s dominant coffee chain over five decades by roasting, marketing, and selling speciality coffees and an ever-expanding assortment of other beverages, food, and branded products.
