Ronnie O’Sullivan paused his 2015 German Masters clash to watch Judd Trump
Ronnie O’Sullivan once brought the to a pause so he could respect the potting mastery of – who made a dazzling 147 on the opposite table. The Rocket has to the Tempodrom for three years in a row now, bypassing it in 2025 due to medical reasons.
While O’Sullivan this time around, having withdrawn from both this event and Trump was as he attempted to retain his title. However, in-form Australian Neil Robertson put pay to those hopes as he from the competition at the round of 16 stage.
It is now 10 years since both Trump and O’Sullivan were involved in a telling interaction, though, when the Ace in the Pack’s brilliance forced the seven-time world champion to pause his potting and watch on in awe.

A decade ago, both O’Sullivan and Trump had eased their way to the quarter-final final stage in the German capital. The Rocket had comfortably seen off both Mark Davis and Joe Perry by scores of 5-1 and 5-0, and his compatriot battled past Anthony McGill and put Peter Ebdon to the sword.
O’Sullivan would face a tough task in Shaun Murphy in the last eight, while Trump was also handed a tall order when facing off against Mark Selby. Murphy had opened up a 2-1 lead as the pair entered the fourth frame in their clash, and it was The Rocket who would come out flying. O’Sullivan’s potting was precise as he sauntered to a century break, but it wasn’t his own table that garnered the majority of his attention.
On the opposite side of the arena, both Trump and Selby were also playing out a cracker. The scores had tilted 3-1 in Selby’s favour, but Trump began building up a maximum break, capturing the attention of not just the game’s immediate audience.

Despite O’Sullivan himself eventually making a blistering 134, it was Trump who continued to pot ball after ball, and as he reached the colours. Everyone in the venue couldn’t help but watch – including The Rocket, who had his cue in hand.
Trump tore through the pack to sink the black and bring a round of applause from all those watching. Having paused his own match to witness the maximum, O’Sullivan showed his respects before continuing to wrap up the frame – with his opponent Murphy also enjoying proceedings on the other table while sat down.
However, Trump’s 147 and O’Sullivan’s 134 would not be enough to win them the tie. Both would exit at the quarter-final stage, and notably, their opponents, Murphy and Selby, would meet in the final – the latter prevailing 9-7.
