Outlander star reveals surprising transformation for new role in Spartacus

Graham McTavish, celebrated for his role in Outlander, has dished on his dramatic transformation for an exciting new series.

The upcoming Spartacus: House of Ashur series serves as a sequel to Spartacus. It conjures an alternative timeline for Nick E. Tarabay’s character Ashur, posing questions like: “What if Ashur hadn’t died on Mount Vesuvius at the end of Spartacus: Vengeance? What if he had been given the gladiator school once owned by Batiatus for helping the Romans kill Spartacus and end the slave rebellion?”

Portraying Korris, a veteran gladiator who has won his freedom and now trains fighters, McTavish talked candidly with People about adjusting to his hairpiece for the character

“I had a [long-haired] wig. I’m constantly tossing my head. They had to tell me to stop,” he said.

Further weighing in on his character Korris, McTavish characterized him as a “decent man” who exhibits “fair and loyal” traits, while also hinting that his character doesn’t shy away from conflict.

“So he’s not duplicitous and manipulative and any of that sort of thing, but he’s not shy of a fight,” he remarked. “Yes, he gets into a few scraps, but it was great fun.”

Spartacus originally hit screens on Starz in 2010 with the premiere season Spartacus: Blood and Sand, followed by the prequel Spartacus: Gods of the Arena in 2011, and subsequent seasons Spartacus: Vengeance in 2012 and Spartacus: War of the Damned in 2013, reports .

In addition to McTavish and Tarabay, the cast of House of Ashur includes Home and Away stars Jamaica Vaughan and Jordi Webber, as well as Ivana Baquero, Claudia Black, India Shaw-Smith, Leigh Gill, and Tenika Davis.

The original creator of the show, Steven S.DeKnight, is back on board as the showrunner and executive producer.

Spartacus: House of Ashur does not yet have a confirmed release date, but Starz has revealed it will premiere in Autumn 2025 in the US.

However, UK viewers may face a longer wait, as Lionsgate+ (previously known as StarzPlay), the network’s streaming service, has ceased operations in the region.

This means another platform or broadcaster will need to acquire the rights to House of Ashur, although there is currently no information on which service, if any, will do so.
