According to Evans, if you’re particularly susceptible to , you’ll want to “choose a cabin in the middle of the deck.”

And, for those who prefer a bit more fresh air, choosing a cabin with a window or veranda can also help, as having a view of the horizon and access to fresh air can alleviate symptoms.

Of course, the type of ship you choose can also impact your experience.

“Larger ships are built for smooth sailing, typically travelling between 20-25 miles per hour,” Evans pointed out.

The time of year and your chosen destination also play crucial roles. For instance, cruising around the Mediterranean in June offers a much calmer experience than cruising in the winter months.

“It’s always a good idea to check out the weather and sea conditions for the time of year you plan to travel.”

As well as planning your cabin and destination, it’s also important to be prepared with the right tools to tackle motion sickness if you know that’s likely to be a problem for you.

“If you already know you suffer from motion sickness, having the right medication on hand is key,” Evans advised.

You can easily pick up medications designed to alleviate symptoms from your local pharmacy before you set sail, ensuring you have enough for the duration of the cruise.
