The question of whether Carole and should be granted titles has sparked occasional debate among royal fans.
As the parents of , and the grandparents of a future king, some argue that their unique position within the Royal Family warrants official recognition.
Sophia Money-Coutts in the writes about their support of the monarchy: “The only question now is whether the Middletons will be granted a title – as grandparents of a future king, and to reward them for their unstinting loyalty and discretion over the past two decades.”
She added: “When Prince George was born in 2013, there were rumours of tension between the-then Prince Charles and the Middletons over who saw the new baby first.
“Classic grandparent stuff.But in recent years, the King is said simply to be grateful for the support they’ve shown his son, so perhaps an earldom is somewhere down the line, although insiders say this is more likely to happen when William becomes king.”
The outlet reports the business tycoon, Sir John Madejski, previously called for this in 2014: “They should be the Earl and Countess of Bucklebury.”

Speaking of Kate’s parents, he added: “They deserve it. They are great people and really good role models.”
Over time, the Middletons are often spotted at royal ceremonies and their presence has been noted among commentators and fans alike.
In December 2024, for the beloved Christmas carol event ‘Together at Christmas’, which was a coming together in support of Kate’s signature celebration.
The Middletons have maintained a public profile over the years but with a focus on their family and business rather than seeking the limelight – therefore, rewarding them with a title could be seen as a recognition of their service and commitment to the institution.
Another potential issue is the precedent it could set, and if similar honours would be expected for other royal-in-laws.

The Middletons, who met while they both worked at British Airways, raised their three children, Kate, Pippa and James, while building careers as entrepreneurs. In the late 1980s, the couple started their own retail business, Party Pieces, a party supply company that they sold after it was bought out of administration.
