A petition urging NFL fans to boycott the has emerged online, with Cheryl Bosa, mother of San Francisco 49ers’ Nick Bosa, lending her support.

Cheryl Bosa publicly joined the social media backlash, accusing the league of the over recent seasons.

While the Chiefs have frequently been on the receiving end of favourable decisions in crucial games – including Sunday’s controversial decision not to award the Buffalo Bills a first down on a vital fourth-down quarterback sneak – there is no evidence to suggest that and his team are being given an unfair advantage through underhand tactics.

The Chiefs beat the Bills 32-29 at Arrowhead Stadium, securing their place in the Super Bowl for the fifth time in six seasons and keeping alive their dream of an unprecedented third consecutive Lombardi Trophy win.

However, a Virginia man named Mack Donahue has urged fans to support his Change.org petition to boycott the big game. Aimed at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, the petition had nearly 750 signatures at the time of writing.

“This petition calls for all NFL viewers upset by the current state of refereeing in the league to commit to boycotting the Super Bowl and future games until measures ensuring accountability and fairness in refereeing are introduced,” the petition reads.

Supporters are rallying together for a boycott, intending to peacefully signal their dissatisfaction and pressure the NFL into addressing their grievance. They demand: “It’s time we took a stand against unjust refereeing and called on the NFL to introduce rigorous referee training and accountability mechanisms that will guarantee fair game-play for all teams.”

Despite the growing support for the movement, it’s questionable whether the league will take notice, particularly given the record-breaking 57.4 million viewers for the AFC Championship game, indicating an upsurge in NFL interest.

Bosa’s mother has added fuel to the fire with an video pointing out favourable decisions given to the Chiefs in last year’s Super Bowl overtime triumph over the 49ers. With the spotlight on Mahomes and his team due to accusations of partiality on social media, their focus remains fixed on the upcoming face-off with the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Feb. 9.

Riding high from Sunday’s victory, the quarterback expressed his appreciation: “It’s just so hard to get to the Super Bowl and I don’t take it for granted, and to do it again at Arrowhead Stadium was special. You get that trophy on that stage and you look around here and there’s not an empty seat – it’s special.”
