Gabriel Macht says he “always” tells “Suits” fans the same thing each time they tell him they’re pursuing their own law degree after being inspired by the drama series.
“There are so many kids that have gone to law school because of the show — because they think it’s fast-moving, there’s family, there’s loyalties, it’s cool, it’s slick. People are witty. There’s a lot of drama, all this kind of stuff,” Macht told People in an interview published Tuesday.
He added, “When people come up to me, and they’re like, ‘I went to law school because of you,’ I always apologize profusely.”
Macht, 53, starred as the self-assured New York City lawyer Harvey Specter on the hit series from 2011 to 2019 alongside Patrick J. Adams, Meghan Markle and Gina Torres.
“I’m sorry,” the “Spirit” alum admitted he tells fans following their interactions. “If you like to read, that is great because you’re going to sit with a book, like this, for hours.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Macht discussed how dedicated the “Suits” fanbase is, sharing that he even once “met a guy who watched it 15 times.”
“Anybody who’s watched it even once to me is like, ‘Oh wow, that’s cool. You were into it, great. You got a lot of time on your hands.’ But for the people that have watched it twice, and five times and 15 times. … I met a guy who watched it 15 times,” Macht said. “And I was like, all right, well we’re going to take a picture together where you’re in that corner and I’m in this corner.’”
Macht added that to watch such a lengthy show takes “commitment.”
“The thing about this show… It’s commitment. People have watched 134 episodes, which is our nine seasons,” he said. “They’ve watched it multiple times. And so for me, that is fanatical a little bit.”
Back in November, Macht revealed that he’s set to reprise his role as Specter in the forthcoming “Suits” spinoff “Suits: LA,” which premieres Feb. 23 on NBC.
In an Instagram post, Macht teased the return of his character with footage of his outfit, which featured a shirt with the initials “H.S.” embroidered on it and shoes that had the name “Harvey” in the soles.

“When an old friend is in need,” Gabriel captioned his Nov. 20 Instagram post, “it’s time to take care of things and make those very ‘things’ right.”
