Just 5% of voters think Labour puts the national interest first, according to new polling.
The survey found that more people believe Britain should prioritise its own interests over global cooperation.
Tory and Reform UK backers are more likely than Labour supporters to say the national interest should come first.
Only one in 20 voters across all parties said Sir ‘s party usually puts the national interest first, while almost a third said Labour prefers global cooperation. Some 14% said Labour balances the two, while 52% did not know.
Senior Tory MP Mark Francois said: “It’s no wonder that barely one in 20 Brits thinks this Labour Government of human rights lawyers put our national interest first, especially when you look at their absolutely bonkers Chagos deal.
Don’t miss…
“It’s a bit like offering Argentina up to £9 billion – to rent back the Falkland Islands and the RAF runway there. It’s just madness.”
The poll by Electoral Calculus and Find Out Now found 40% disagree with the Government’s plan to had over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius.
Just 18% agree with the deal, which has been thrown into doubt by ‘s return to the White House, while the rest were neutral or unsure.
Martin Baxter, CEO of Electoral Calculus, said: “Our poll shows that the public want British national interests to be one of the main drivers of policy, but many worry that Labour is going in a different direction.
“The Chagos Oslands are an interesting example, where public support for handing them over is limited. It remains to be seen if the new Trump administration will try to stop the plan.”
The poll of more than 2,000 people was carried out from January 20-22.
