Outlander’s Sam Heughan did ‘something no one’s ever done’ after filming final season

Outlander stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have finished filming their final scenes as Jamie and Claire Fraser for the eighth and final season of the popular historical drama.

Although a release date has yet to be confirmed, the series is expected to conclude in 2025 or 2026.

Heughan recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote his latest project, Channel 4’s erotic thriller The Couple Next Door, which is now airing on Starz in the US.

During the conversation, Kelly asked Heughan about his experience since wrapping up filming for Outlander.

“It’s been a long part of my life,” he shared candidly. “So, yeah, I mean, it’s sort of bittersweet, right?”

Kelly mentioned that she had heard Heughan did something significant to celebrate the end of filming.

“We had wrap parties and everything,” he confirmed. “But, actually I went to Nepal.”

Heughan revealed that he had always wanted to see Everest, so he traveled there with his friend Jake Norton, a mountaineer.

The actor then shared a remarkable achievement: he and Norton became the first people to hike a particular section of the Himalayas. “We hiked for two weeks along the Hunku Khola valley,” he said.

“And we were the first people ever to do that. So we had this amazing ceremony…” Kelly was left astonished as she exclaimed: “OK, Lewis and Clark! Like, wow! I didn’t even know that those adventures were still available.”

Heughan responded with enthusiasm about the untamed beauty of Nepal: “There’s so much of Nepal, so many peaks that have never been climbed, that don’t even have names.”

He went on to describe his journey: “We went there, to this small village,” as images from his expedition flashed on screen. “They blessed us and we then walked for two weeks and camping in this bamboo forest.”

He further detailed the ascent: “Then up into the alpine and then, as you can see, we got up to the Amphu Laptsa pass, which is like 20,000 feet, and then had to rappel several thousand feet down into the Khumbu valley.

“So it was pretty crazy, but a lot of fun.”

Kelly chuckled at the thought of descending after such an arduous climb, prompting Heughan to confess: “That’s the worst part, right? You’re like, ‘Oh, this is amazing, and I’ve worked so hard to get here. Oh God, now I’ve gotta get back down again’.”

Fans of the Outlander star can look forward to more thrilling updates on his , as he continues to share his globetrotting adventures post his iconic role as Jamie.

Outlander is available to watch on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
