Volkswagen cancels all-electric ID.7 for Canada, U.S.

Initially slated to arrive on our shores summer 2024, it turns out the EV sedan will no longer make a trek across the pond at all

  • Welp: Volkswagen just cancelled its plans to bring its ID.7 EV to Canada and the U.S.
  • The car, originally set to go on sale here summer 2024, would have been the size of a Passat
  • The automaker says it’s recognizing EV sedans can be a tough sell in North America

It is suggested the car would have packed 282 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque, with a 77-kWh (net) battery pack hove underneath to provide an estimated range in the ballpark of about 600 clicks (373 miles) judged by the endlessly optimistic European testing standards.

Rear- or all-wheel-drive configurations may have been on the table. Charging would have maxed out at 175 kW on this application of the MEB platform, which is all most DC fast-chargers around here can realistically heave out at any given time anyway.
