The Great British Menu made its highly anticipated return to the with a brand new set of chefs hoping to impress judges and compete for the opportunity to cook a course at a prestigious banquet.
For the show’s 20th anniversary series, the four chefs compete for northwest England with canapes, starters and fish dishes celebrating great Britons of the past for a banquet at historic Blenheim Palace.
After creating canapes, judge Paul Ainsworth told the contestants that they had to make a vegan dish to celebrate their choice of great Britons from northwestern England.
However, fans quickly took to social media with criticism over the choice of cuisine as others claimed Eddie could have an “advantage” as he works at a plant-based restaurant.
One fumed: “Noooo, why does the starter HAVE to be vegan. I’m all for expanding cuisines but don’t force veganism on everyone else.”

Another posted: “Here we go again another plant based starter, with a plant based chef!!! This chef should then cook meat based meals to even it out, just my opinion.”
A third questioned: “Doesn’t the plantanarian. or what ever he calls himself, at an advantage as he cooks with nothing but stuff in a vegan dish.”
As another slammed: “Vegan starter to appeal to one minority. Soon we’ll have a no pork main course.”
While a viewer joked: “Looking forward to the vegan chef serving up a Banoffee pie for the meat course #greatbritishmenu.”
