Fans of BBC’s Silent Witness are fiercely split over the show’s recent episode, with some deeming it excessively unrealistic.
As soon as the latest chapter involving Emilia Fox’s Dr Nikki Alexander began, social media – on X, previously known as Twitter – went wild with audience reactions over the intense developments.
While returning from Mumbai aboard a flight, Nikki finds herself in an unfolding emergency as a fellow passenger suddenly falls critically ill. Despite her years away from direct patient care, which had left her visibly anxious and out of her depth, Nikki answered the urgent call for medical aid as the passenger began coughing up blood.
The initial suspicion indicated severe food poisoning might be the cause. However, as the crew executed an unplanned landing, forsaking their original destination in Azerbaijan due to the escalating crisis, they all touch down in the UK where a much more sinister reality awaited them – a killer was also on the flight.

The episode thrilled many with its edge-of-the-seat suspense, yet a fraction of the audience weren’t enamored, dismissing the plotline as “far-fetched”, reports .
Fans were torn as they flocked to X, intensely debating the latest episode of Silent Witness. One viewer wrote: “Just when you think Silent Witness was more grounded this season.”
Another fan enthusiastically posted: “That was a ridiculous storyline for Silent Witness this week. I loved it,” contrasted with a further tweet that praised: “God this show was worth the year long wait, what an episode #silentwitness.”

However, some keen observers highlighted a significant gaffe in the early stages of the episode. As Nikki awaited a flight, she announced over speakerphone: “No-one snored, thank goodness! And they asked lots of follow-ups. I even managed the intro in Hindi.”
Her husband-to-be, Jack Hodgson (David Caves), playfully responded: “Look at you! Jet-setting multilingual expert on immunohistochemical methods to estimate time since death! You deserve all the free champagne you get!” Their exchange turned bittersweet as the same fellow passenger listened in and later became gravely ill during the flight.

Confusion ensued online as one individual expressed disappointment: “Nicky has gone down in my estimation having a personal call on speakerphone #silentwitness,” and another concurred: “Nooooo!! Don’t be the annoying person who puts their mobile on speaker whilst in public. #silentwitness”.
A third commenter issued a cautionary note: “Get your phone off speaker. Rude. #SilentWitness,” while a fourth injected a touch of sarcasm: “#SilentWitness love it when people have conversations on loud speaker in public places.”
Silent Witness returns to BBC1 this evening from 9pm and can be streamed via iPlayer.
