Awkward reunion on Married At First Sight Australia as couple have unexpected history

The Married At First Sight Australia premiere witnessed a cringeworthy moment on Monday when 30-year-old French groom Paul Antoine was introduced to his bride, 31-year-old Carina Mirabile, only to discover they had previously dated.

Eight months before their televised wedding, the couple went on a date that ended with Paul ghosting her, leaving Carina stunned and upset during their nuptials. The ceremony began charmingly, with Paul reciting his vows in French.

“Avec chaque baton de mon coeur, je te choisis comme ma partenaire,” he romantically declared, promising to cherish Carina and create a life full of love.

His heartfelt declaration impressed the attendees, but Carina dropped a shocker by revealing their prior dating history, leaving everyone utterly astonished, reports

“What are the chances? I know. F sake. Am I gonna get a different guy or what?” an exasperated Carina exclaimed, dismayed by the unforeseen revelation.

Carina then recounted their brief romantic endeavour, detailing: “We just FaceTimed and messaged, then went on a hike.” She continued to disclose the reason their connection fizzled out, adding: “We were messaging, and I was going to see him on a Saturday night.

“Then he said he needed to take someone out, and I never spoke to him again. He ghosted me,” she disclosed.

Caught off-guard, Paul acknowledged their mutual history, admitting that at the time, he wasn’t prepared for a committed relationship.

“When we first met, I was in a bit of a pickle because it felt like the right person had come along at the wrong time. I was dealing with some tough stuff with work and family,” he admitted.

“I had to let her go, even though I didn’t want to. Seeing her now feels like the universe is giving me a second shot.”

But Carina’s reaction wasn’t quite as romantic, revealing: “I wanted to go into this blind, not knowing the person. I’m just so disappointed about the whole situation.”

Despite the initial tension, Paul remained optimistic, stating: “I want to prove I’m ready for this. She’s a great person, and I just hope she’s willing to give me another chance.”

However, Carina still harbored doubts, confessing: “He’s saying all the right things, but my guard is up. I don’t know if this is genuine or just because of our past.” This left fans eagerly awaiting to see whether these two can work through their past and build a future together.

MAFS Australia is launching today in Australia, while a UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
