Following Eowyn, which brought the “strongest winds in 10 years” to the UK, another named storm is barrelling across the country.

Storm Herminia, christened by the Spanish meteorological office, is set to usher in more gusty gales and heavy downpours.

The in the UK has issued for wind and for heavy rainfall. The stormy weather is predicted to move eastwards throughout the day, impacting the South West first, where the .

The warns that in areas under weather warnings, strong winds may lead to travel disruptions, large waves, and the risk of flying debris.

The cautions that there’s a possibility of localised flooding, particularly in areas previously impacted by Eowyn.

Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly commented: “While Sunday’s system doesn’t have the same strength as Eowyn, it will hamper some recovery efforts and bring further wind and rain, with the possibility of some flooding in places.

“Ten to 20mm of rain will fall quite widely on Sunday in central and southern England, much of Wales and Northern Ireland, with 30 to 50mm possible over high ground.”

Thundery showers could top up totals later in the day for some. With this rain falling on saturated ground in many places, there’s a chance of flooding for some, with winds an accompanying hazard with the system.”
