Princess Charlotte could find inspiration in Prince Edward’s bizarre royal move

may only be nine-years-old, however it is already very clear that the young royal is likely to have a significant impact on the Royal Family in the near future.

As her father is first-in-line to the throne, with her older Prince George, 11, set to take the crown after, it comes as no surprise that the princess will be a key figure in the future of the monarchy.

While many , which is currently held by King Charles’s sister Princess Anne, 74, there has been some speculation as to whether another royal title could be on the cards for ’s only daughter.

Speaking on , royal commentator Richard Eden said that Charlotte could take inspiration from Prince Edward, who asked for a royal title that had not been used for years beforehand.

He said: “In fact Prince Edward got a newly created title. So the story goes, he loved the Oscar winning film Shakespeare In Love.”

He continued: “In there, there was a character called the Earl of Wessex and when his mother said ‘what title would you like’, he said ‘yeah, I’d like to be the Earl of Wessex’. So that was created for him. It wasn’t a title that had been used for centuries I think.”

When asked whether Charlotte could one day be titled the Duchess of Edinburgh as a stand-alone, the Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English said: “There is nothing saying she couldn’t, but I think we’d all expect her to be the Princess Royal.”
