The brains behind the upcoming film Star Trek Section 31, have revealed that only two features remain from the initial vision for the spin-off.
Originally, the plan for Michelle Yeoh’s character Philippa Georgiou return to the franchise was to launch a new TV series.
This proposed show would continue her narrative arc following a recurring role in Star Trek Discovery for the now Oscar winner.
However, Section 31 has now turned into a television movie event where Yeoh’s Georgiou is recruited by Starfleet’s Section 31.
Their mandate is to safeguard the United Federation of Planets. Furthermore, Georgiou will be compelled to confront the shadows of her own history.
The film’s director says the idea for a Discovery spin-off was very different

The journey to bring Section 31 to life has been filled with twists and turns, culminating in numerous revisions before it even commenced official production.
Director Olatunde Osunsanmi has opened up about the many phases through which the project has passed and highlighted just a pair of components that have endured from the earliest script to the forthcoming movie, reports .
They commented: “I would say the only two things that are the same from the original series pilot to the movie that we’ve got now is that there is a character named Alok and Philippa Georgiou. It has been retooled so much, the two stories are completely unrecognisable, and Craig Sweeny, the writer, has been in the middle of that whole process.”
Michelle Yeoh’s character is one of two things that have remained for the film
“He’s (the writer, Sweeny) been in a situation to have written I think seven different iterations of this. When I say seven different iterations, the first iteration was six episodes of the first season of Section 31.
“The second iteration was another five episodes of Section 31 which were completely different than the previous iteration. Then the fourth, fifth, and sixth were multiple pilots that were outlines, then we had the movie, and the movie itself went through a couple of iterations.”
However, Osunsanmi has also moved to reassure fans that all this hard work that has gone into the film has been well worth it. They added: “I think where we ended up was wonderful, because we never would have gotten here if it weren’t for that journey. Sometimes you just got to go on the journey in order to arrive at the place that you arrive at.”
