Here’s why Corey Perry didn’t want to fight the Canucks

After Perry dumped Quinn Hughes on his head, you’d have thought he’d have faced some consequences.

Face the music, Corey Perry.

That was all Perry, who was the last man into the pile and was handed a two minute penalty for roughing, faced. This isn’t the bad old days but you still figure the Canucks would have kept after him, even if it would all have been in vain. Something, anything.

Perry acknowledged post-game that he thought about dropping the gloves, but figured why bother.

“There’s a time and a place. I just felt the time and the place wasn’t right now. They had 12 guys coming after me on one shift there, it felt like. But you know, it’s part of the game, and it is what it is,” he said, bluntly.

“Why aren’t we protecting the superstars? Why aren’t we?” Perry said earlier this week. “Every other league does it? They protect their superstars. Sure, they’re going to take extra abuse. They’re the superstars. Connor knows that and he doesn’t bitch and complain very often about it.”

Canucks fans had so little to cheer for in this game, you’d have thought they might have at least got some kind of momentary satisfaction with a Canuck taking on Perry, but no, they didn’t even get that.
