was reportedly involved in a ‘heated exchange’ with star Facundo Buonanotte after the Foxes were dismantled by Fulham. Other players are said to have been involved in the fiery clash between the legend and his under-performing squad.

Leicester were cut further adrift from safety when they lost 2-0 at home to Fulham on Saturday. The Midlands outfit are 19th and have not won in the since beating West Ham 2-0 on December 3, Van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge.

The Leicester boss was furious with the performance against Fulham and believed it was even worse than their loss by the same scoreline against Crystal Palace three days earlier.

According to the , Van Nistelrooy made his feelings clear in a ‘heated’ confrontation with Leicester’s players. On-loan winger Buonanotte is claimed to have been among the players on the receiving end of the 48-year-old’s wrath, with the dressing room surprised that the Argentine was singled out.

Van Nistelrooy has not enjoyed a happy start to life at Leicester, having been appointed in the aftermath of his exit from . He has won only two of his 10 matches in charge – with one of them a 6-2 thrashing of QPR in the FA Cup.

The next few weeks do not get any easier, with , Everton and their next three fixtures. Van Nistelrooy is reported to have been unhappy with the lack of transfer business – with only one new signing – and he pointedly claimed last weekend that onlookers can pinpoint the players who suffered relegation with the club two years ago.

“You could look at the squad and you know which players were involved in the relegation two years ago. It’s not only in the back four. It’s in the middle of the pitch, up front, and the goalies as well,” Van Nistelrooy said.

“There’s a fair bit of players who lived that situation and who knows what it’s about, and what the consequences are.

“It’s good to have them around because they know from experience what it did with them, and they will do everything they can so it doesn’t happen again.”

On the performance, he added: “Today was extremely disappointing because it wasn’t good enough in all aspects of the game. I observed more promise in the 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace last Wednesday than in today’s performance.

“Of course, results are painful and disappointing, but we fell short in too many areas that are crucial for winning a football match. We have to confront this reality. We cannot alter it. We must face it. Don’t feel sorry for anyone.”
