UK motorway traffic jam
One of the connecting Kent to London is closed eastbound following a “serious collision”.
National Highways is advising motorists on the M20 that Junction 8 at Hollingbourne to Junction 10 at Maidstone is due to a “police led incident”.
Police are on the scene and have warned that the motorway will be closed for some hours.
In a statement Kent Police said: “Kent Police is currently at the scene of a serious collision near Junction 9 of the M20 at Ashford.
“The motorway is closed coastbound while the incident is responded to and is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.”

Drivers are being told to avoid the 4.5-mile stretch of motorway and take a diversion on a major A road.
All three lanes are currently closed, and there are delays of around 30 minutes reported by National Highways.
According to the National Highways traffic tracker the incident is “expected to clear between 18:45 and 19:00” tonight.

The National Highways diversion advice is:
- Exit the M20 at J8 and take the third exit at the roundabout and at the next roundabout take the first exit on to the A20
- Remain on the A20 until the junction with Fougeres Way where it will will turn northwards towards J9 of the M20
- At Drovers roundabout) take the 2nd exit onto the A292, towards Ashford.
- Remain on the A292 for approximately 3 miles, passing through Ashford, to the Latcon interchange with the M20/A2070
- Take the 3rd exit to the join the A2070, towards Dover (M20)
- At the next roundabout take the 1st exit, towards Sellindge
- Continue to the M20 J10A roundabout and take the 4th exit to rejoin the M20 eastbound.
