Hit US comedy with ‘sharp writing’ finally coming to UK TV

A razor-sharp comedy boasting a 99% Rotten Tomatoes rating is set to finally come to the UK, with its highly-praised third season yet to be aired in the UK.

Hacks features Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), a renowned Las Vegas stand-up comedian who must revamp her ageing act to prevent losing her residency at the Palmetto Casino.

Young comedy writer Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) finds herself out of work due to a controversial tweet and her reputation for being egotistical and arrogant. However, she’s compelled to collaborate with Deborah Vance, leading to an unexpected bond.

The first two seasons of Hacks were made available to UK viewers on Prime Video in 2022, but the third season has never been aired in the UK.

Sky has now secured the UK broadcast rights to the entire series, including the much-anticipated latest season of the acclaimed comedy, reports .

The full series will be accessible via Sky On Demand and streaming service NOW as boxsets from Friday, February 7. The series will also air on Sky Max on the same day at 9pm.

The series has been a resounding success, earning accolades from critics and audiences alike. It has garnered numerous awards, including honours from the Golden Globes, AFI, Peabody, Critics Choice, DGA, SAG, WGA and GLAAD.

Smart clinched the Emmy award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2024 Emmy Awards, having already won two consecutive Emmys for her portrayal of Deborah Vance.

Hacks is currently enjoying a near perfect 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with both its first and second seasons garnering perfect scores on the same platform.

The ensemble cast features Paul W. Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Kaitlin Olson, Jane Adams, J.Smith-Cameron, Helen Hunt, Christina Hendricks, Christopher McDonald, Christopher Lloyd, Tony Goldwyn, Mark Indelicato, Rose Abdoo, and Lorenza Izzo.

The hit US comedy is the brainchild of Emmy winners Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky, who also serve as showrunners.

Executive production is handled by Downs and Aniello under their Paulilu banner, Statsky through First Thought Productions, along with Emmy Award recipients Michael Schur via Fremulon, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment and Morgan Sackett. The series is produced by Universal Television, a subsidiary of Universal Studio Group.
