New Vietnam War series revealed as Apple shares incredible trailer

has unveiled the official trailer for its groundbreaking new documentary series, Vietnam: The War That Changed America, narrated by Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke. The highly anticipated six-part series, set to premiere globally on Apple TV+ on January 31, marks the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War.

Promising an emotional and thought-provoking exploration, the series delves into one of the most divisive and transformative conflicts in American history.

Described as “deeply human” in its approach, Vietnam: The War That Changed America offers a raw and unflinching portrait of the war. Through first-person testimony, never-before-seen archival footage, and emotional reunions, it highlights the lived experiences of soldiers, civilians, anti-war protestors, and survivors from all sides of the conflict.

This ambitious series goes beyond the headlines, capturing the profound effects of the war on individuals and its lasting impact on the United States as a nation.

Among the extraordinary voices featured in the series are Bill Broyles, a screenwriter and former Lieutenant who reunites with a member of his platoon after 50 years, and Hilary Brown, ABC News’ first female foreign correspondent who reported on the fall of Saigon firsthand.

Melvin Pender, an Olympic gold medalist who competed in 1968 between tours in Vietnam, also shares his incredible story.

The series includes moving accounts from Viet Cong soldiers who fought in the Tet Offensive, including the first Viet Cong woman in her district to shoot down an enemy aircraft.

A veteran who parachuted into the Ho Chi Minh Trail and thought his life was over emotionally reunites with the man who saved him. Vietnamese civilians who witnessed and fled the horrors of war also offer their perspectives, painting a vivid picture of life during the conflict.

The production team, led by director Rob Coldstream and the BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning team at 72 Films, drew from over 1,100 hours of archival footage to create this masterful documentary. The series is designed to bring healing, remembrance, and reconciliation while shedding light on the human stories behind the war.

A show executive revealed: “Vietnam: The War That Changed America weaves together powerful stories that capture the heartache, resilience, and hope of those who lived through this pivotal chapter in history.”

This series is the second collaboration between Apple TV+ and 72 Films, following their success with John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial. By combining historical depth with deeply personal narratives, Vietnam: The War That Changed America promises to provide an unparalleled look at the Vietnam War’s lasting scars and the changes it wrought in the United States.

The documentary is set to premiere globally on January 31, 2025, exclusively on Apple TV+.
