The glass was a challenging job for the expert
Kirsten divulged the challenging nature of their work, confessing: “The objects that come into The Repair Shop, are almost all quite challenging. That’s because often people have tried to get them fixed elsewhere and they have been told that they are beyond repair. We are often their last hope.”
She further detailed the painstaking restoration of an alabaster lampshade: “The alabaster lampshade that I worked on was so incredibly damaged, it was a tricky fix because it was hoped that it could be used once again as a light, it needed to retain its translucency once bonded and filled, and it was in so many pieces that had been left out in the garden in the snow and the rain sustaining further damage from the elements.”

Regarding her approach to restorations, Kirsten said: “I had to somehow get those pieces back together and make a repair that was safe and not going to fall apart onto someone’s head but also function as a lampshade again.”
