A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that 12% of brits enjoy a cup of tea as soon as they wake up. Astonishingly, one in ten even consume three or more cups to start their day.

This equates to an impressive 2,682 million gallons of tea – enough to fill four Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Over half confess they can’t properly commence their day without a cuppa, with 63% rarely or never skipping one as part of their morning routine.

And it’s for a good reason – over two-thirds credit tea with boosting their productivity and 78% say it provides them with a little lift and morning boost, setting them up for the day. Eleanor Barker from Lipton even described it as ‘the hero of British mornings’.

The research by PG Tips found more than a third feel refreshed and more alert after their cup of tea and admit that if they don’t get their morning brew, they feel flat and tired.

A quarter also rely on it for comfort, and as the day unfolds, 41% use tea as a reset button, helping them refocus before their next task or activity.

“Whether it’s a moment to pause before the day begins or a quick cuppa to boost your productivity, tea is at the heart of a great start to the day,” added Eleanor.

Consequently, 37% would happily skip checking the news to squeeze in a morning tea, while 35% would sacrifice making their bed to have the hot drink if they are pressed for time.

One in 10 would even forego brushing their teeth just so they can start their day right with a tea.

The study also found that a builder’s tea is the overwhelming favourite in the morning, followed by black tea and green tea.

But regardless of their tea preference, Brits dedicate on average nearly nine cherished minutes each morning to slowly sipping their cuppa, making sure to savour the moment.
