In reaction to the heartbreaking news, many fans of his followers took to social media to express their sorrow and share their own experiences regarding the loss of their beloved pets.

They opened up about the deep emotional connections they had with their animals and the profound impact their passing had on their lives.

One commented: “Furry angels..sent to teach humans unconditional love..but unlike humans who have to live a long life to learn the nature of such unconditional love, dogs are BORN that way, and so, once they pass this lesson onto us, they don’t need to stay, so they fly on angel wings once.”

A second replied: “I’m so sorry to hear this about dear sweet Misty. I’m happy you found each other until you meet again.”

While a third added: “My deepest sympathies for your loss. It’s been just over a week since my Oscar left this world after 14.5 years. Even though you know they can’t carry on, the gap they leave is marked, and the desolation is absolute, and silence is deafening! Wishing you and your family all the best.”

Nickyis known to many for hosting Long Lost Family, an emotional ITV programme that sees people reconnect with their blood relatives.

Camera crews follow the search, and the show tugs at the heartstrings of viewers as people discover family members they thought they may never meet.

Some fans may not know Nicky himself was given up for adoption when he was born in April 1961. It wasn’t long before his adoptive parents found him and raised him as their own, but in his 20s he decided to search for his birth parents.

Nicky was just four days old when he was adopted by Scottish couple Frank and Sheila Campbell. His biological mother, Stella Lackey, gave him away as she was unmarried at the time.

She moved from Dublin to Edinburgh, hoping to escape the shame of being a single parent back in those days. For the first five years of Nicky’s life, Stella sent Christmas cards to her son but Nicky did not track her down until he turned 29.

After much searching, he eventually found Stella, though said he felt “no emotional connection” to his birth mother. However, he did say he felt sorry about her “complicated, rather tragic life”, as reported by
