Emmerdale’s Amy Barton, portrayed by Natalie Ann Jamieson, is about to embark on a fresh storyline as she ponders a life-changing decision for herself and her husband Matty, played by Ash Palmisciano.

The couple, who tied the knot last year, have been enjoying wedded bliss. Their relationship was tested when Matty was wrongfully jailed over a stabbing accusation from Samson Dingle, played by Sam Hall, but an unforeseen revelation could change everything.

In the upcoming week, Amy steps in to help Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) and takes part in looking after Frankie Robinson with Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb). However, caring for young Frankie ignites a longing in Amy to have a child with Matty, leaving Moira surprised by her daughter-in-law’s admission.

Moira encourages Amy, already a mother to Kyle (Huey Quinn), to talk about her wish to start a family with Matty. She nervously suggests that adoption might be an option.

Matty is taken aback by Amy’s proposition and struggles to grasp the enormity of his wife’s suggestion. As she gently persuades him to think about adoption, Matty abruptly halts the conversation to mull it over, according to Leeds Live.

Amy is left feeling guilty for springing her excitement on Matty and hopes he will consider the idea of growing their family. Will Matty and Amy reach an agreement about their future, or is Amy set for disappointment?

Natalie Ann Jamieson, the actress behind the character Amy, teases what is in store for her on-screen persona, revealing Amy’s deep-seated desire for a family life with Matty. “She is playing with Frankie, and Frankie is being very very cute and she gets a little bit broody and Moira spots it straight away”, she explains.

“She thinks this all happens very fast for Amy, it happens there and then. She’s just like ‘oh my goodness this is what I want and I want it with Matty’.”

Adding to the narrative of her character’s journey, the actress shared: “Obviously she loves Kyle and he is her everything, she’s always regretted not being there when he was little. I think if she could have that opportunity again to be there for somebody, and do it properly, I think that would be amazing for Amy.”

The storyline develops as Amy takes proactive steps towards growing her family with Matty by securing a family home, even before discussing it with him. Will Matty be on board with her spontaneous decision?

Expanding further on her character’s actions, Natalie Ann added: “They are meant to be saving money to buy a house but instead she has spoken to Kim and she’s renting a house instead.

“She wants it now, she wants it immediately so she can put this plan into action. It’s a surprise to Matty.”

As Amy leaps into preparing for their future, one wonders whether she and Matty will see eye to eye on family expansion or if it will cause tension in their relationship.

airs every weekday at 19.30pm on ITV1, ITV X, STV and STV Player with an hour-long episode on Thursdays. It is also available each morning from 07.00am on ITVX.
