Former two-division champion has voiced his support for jailed far-right activist .

Robinson – real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – was jailed last October for 18 months. The 42-year-old admitted 10 breaches of a High Court order made back in 2021, during a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court.

McGregor, 36, is currently in Washington DC after attending ‘s inauguration on Monday afternoon. During the celebrations, a reporter was eager to talk to the UFC star about how the country of Ireland is “having a problem with illegal immigration, just like America (and) just like the UK.” The reporter adds: “One of the leading voices in the UK, a guy named Tommy Robinson, who also happens to be part Irish is locked up right now (for) bringing attention not only to immigration and to the rape of Britain but also for exposing trouble with refugees.”

McGregor was then quizzed by the individual about Robinson’s situation in UK right now. “What do you think about Tommy’s predicament right now in the UK and the fact that he’s locked up for playing the documentary film?” he was asked. McGregor was eager to share his response, saying: “For the life of me I can’t understand why we wish to hide these horrific crimes and shield them from light.

“Light is the best disinfectant and light is needed so for anyone that sheds light on this they do not deserve to be turned on in society, they deserve to be praised. So, you know, I pray for more light on the bad things that happen.”

On the topic of Trump, McGregor was very complimentary of the 47th president of the United States, saying: “Amazing to be here. I’m very excited. Very optimistic about the future. And it’s a good time here in the United States. I was here the last time became president in 2016. And the energy and the response is night and day, which is a testament to how he’s done as a president, his last run, and how he’s handled himself since.”

The MMA icon was then asked about the difference this time under Mr Trump, with the Irishman insisting it felt like more American’s are supporting the 78-year-old, adding: “Lessons learned. Hard lessons learned. And a backing of his country now. I feel the people are backing him. And I’m excited to see him go do it. I hope he does, and I wish him all the best.”
