Dusan Vlahovic’s life has been anything but straightforward so far.
Having grown up in the shadow of war, the Belgrade-born striker has established himself as one of the most lethal strikers in world football and currently plies his trade for outfit .
Fighting in the Balkans had mostly ceased when Vlahovic was born in January 2000, but the Bosnian War left a lasting mark on his family.
His brother was one of the hundreds of thousands of people to have lost their lives because of the conflict in Eastern Europe.
He was able to put that childhood trauma to one side and forge a successful football career, which began back in Serbia when he broke through the academy of boyhood club Partizan Belgrade.
But things could’ve been much different for Vlahovic, had he gone down one of the many sporting paths that lay in front of him.
A keen basketballer, Vlahovic was said to have trained since he was four years old, with the future Champions League star also a keen martial artist.
On the football pitch, the youngster was touted as a hot prospect from an early age and was rewarded with his first professional contract at aged just 15.
It proved a worthwhile decision from Partizan, as he made up part of the team that won the 2016/17 Serbian league title, as well as two Serbian Cups in 2016 and 2017.
