would be well served if followed in Harvey Elliott’s footsteps this month and put to bed any rumours of a January exit.

The star right-back is as he enters the final few months of his contract, despite being in a title race, he could leave for free at the end of the season.

Rumours were also ablaze over Elliott’s future, having struggled to break into starting line-up. He is a regular feature off the bench and will play a big role in the run-in, but speculation has been rife over the possibility of leaving for more gametime elsewhere.

However, Elliott directly dispelled such a notion after . “Absolutely [I want to stay],” Elliott said.

“ is my club, is my team. I want to fight for my place, fight for my position in the team. I am going to do what it takes. Do it as much as I can.

“Help the team out when it’s possible. It’s down to me to put in the effort, the hard work, the desire, to make that achievement. I am not going to give up, I am going to keep fighting and who knows what might happen.”

Elliott earned immense praise from Slot for his performance in west London, directly setting up second goal before finding Alexander-Arnold in the box who crossed for Nunez’s opener.

He was singled out by Slot who can now look forward to working with Elliott beyond the January window, but he cannot say the same for Alexander-Arnold with the star’s future very much up in the air.

“In all the other interviews there was a lot of focus on Darwin, because he scored two goals, and every time I said ‘yeah, but don’t forget Harvey’,” Slot said.

“He had a big impact on both goals as well. It’s so nice for me, for us as a team, that I have players that can impact the game on the bench as well. This happened at with [Diogo] Jota and Kostas [Tsimikas] and today with Harvey and with Darwin.

“I also liked Robbo [Robertson] and Curtis [Jones] when they came in, and Federico [Chiesa] was only for five minutes but it’s nice to have so many opportunities on the bench as well.

“That’s why they have to stay available, they have to stay fit, because one of the strengths of the team is also players who can impact the game from the bench.”

Conor Bradley is waiting in the wings should Alexander-Arnold depart before next season, but a massive vote of confidence would be the defender copying Elliott and penning a new contract.
