A U.S. border patrol agent has been shot and killed during a traffic stop in Vermont, according to multiple news reports.

In a press release, Vermont State Police said there was a shooting in Coventry, Vermont, a town of around 1,000 people near the Canadian border.
The shooting occurred shortly after 3 p.m., and just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump vowed harsh measures to crack down on illegal immigration and declared a state of emergency on the United States’ southern border with Mexico.
