ITV Out There fans fume star’s ‘making it worse’ as tense drugs storyline unfolds

Out There viewers were left scratching their heads after tuning in to the latest instalement of the   drama, with many pointing out things are only getting “100 times worse.”

On Monday (January 20), the 63-year-old actor returned to our screens in an exciting new drama where the star plays the role of a Welsh farmer who is trying to protect his son after he gets mixed up with a drug dealer.

But things took an awful turn when his character Nathan Williams stood up for his son Johnny [Louis Ashbourne Serkis] after the teen thought the drugs he was holding for a friend Rhys Simpson [Gerran Howell] had been stolen from their home.

The single dad soon confronted Rhys and attempted to pay off Johnny’s debt, offering him £500, but they learned that Rhys had tricked the youngster, filling a bag with a rugby ball and stealing it back to hold it over him.

Infuriated Nathan took Rhys real drugs and flushed them down the toilet as the young dealer swore vengance. He later used this to blackmail Johnny into doing drug runs for him in order to pay off the debt for the flushed drugs, ensuring the schoolboy was completely in his clutches.

It’s fair to say fans were less than impressed with the dramatic storyline as they flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their complaints online.

One user fumed: “As if you’d flush the drugs down the toilet! Martin Clunes has made the situation 1000x worse now. #OutThere,” one commented. “Oh God. He should have quit while he was ahead. #OutThere,” another wrote with a crying face emoji.

A third echoed: “Thanks to Gary flushing Rhys’ drugs down the toilet, you just know he’s done the dumbest thing ever, and that he was alright until then. #OutThere,” referencing Martin’s Men Behaving Badly character who was not adverse to the odd illegal substance.

The episode also saw Nathan dealing with a drone flying over his farm which he was convinced belonged to someone trying to buy him out of his land.

This led home of his brother’s girlfriend Robyn (Cat Simmons) who denied having anything to do with it.

Infuriated at the invasion of privacy he took his shotgun and shot the drone down before confronting his brother at his place of work to question him about it.

He offered him a job on the farm doing security but he dismissed it claiming Nathan had bought him out of the property at below market value.

Tonight’s installment was the second episode of the drama which has six parts in total. All episodes are available on ITVX while the drama will also continue weekly on Sunday and Monday for three weeks.
