may be turning their attention away from the top holiday destinations of Majorca and Ibiza in favour of quieter islands like Menorca as they search for slower escapes away from the crowds.

According to a study by TravelSupermarket, holiday searches to have grown by 341% this year, far outstripping its larger neighbours.

Among the reasons highlighted for this sudden switch are cheaper package holidays, available from as little as £300, budget air routes and the appeal of quieter tourism for families.

The fact that Brits may have been made to feel unwelcome in and due to last year’s multitude of overtourism protests could also have played a role in the decision-making protest.

Menorca’s natural beauty, many beaches, hiking trails through scenic areas, rich history and mild temperatures even in winter make it a perfect destination for those wanting an active holiday or those simply craving a relaxing break away from the chaos of the other Balearic Islands.

In August, Majorca was ranked the most unwelcoming hotspot located in Europe for British tourists by .

Meanwhile, a British family who have holidayed in Majorca for the past two decades said they would find a new destination after being .

The Brit claimed that her pregnant daughter and son-in-law “were stopped by a female in a car near the Portixol Hotel”. She also claimed: “The driver asked where our daughter and son-in-law were from. When they answered the UK, she shouted at them ‘Tourists go home’ and drove off at speed.”

It has not been confirmed, however, that these anti-tourist protests have played a part in this move by Brits to choose Menorca over its larger Balearic neighbours.
