David urged drivers to avoid telling a mechanic how to do a certain task with their car
Whilst drivers may feel like they are making the life of a mechanic easier by explaining how to access a certain part of their vehicle that needs replacing, David highlighted that it is not always appreciated.
Experienced mechanics go through significant amounts of training and have likely completed the task at hand several times before, meaning they will already know the easiest way to solve an issue.
In some cases, drivers who tell a mechanic exactly how to do a job could follow their customer’s instructions to the letter, only to charge them a significantly higher bill as more labour was required.

Motorists should also avoid watching the mechanic work, which could increase tension
Later in the video, David also suggested that drivers should avoid asking to watch the mechanic working on their car, stating that this could make them feel as if they are not trusted.
He continued: “I’ve actually had people say ‘can I come into the shop and watch you do the job?’. Number one, this says right away that they don’t trust me, they want to watch me do the work.
“The mechanic has probably done the job many times, whatever the job is, but the customer is saying ‘I think this is your first time and you don’t know what you’re doing’.”
Finally, the YouTuber urged all motorists to never ask a mechanic to ‘do everything’ that their vehicle needs, stating that some may take the request further than they imagined.
He advised: “Now, if you trust your mechanic and have done business with them for years or at least months, you can probably get away with doing this and they’ll give you a fair estimate. But, if you don’t know the mechanic, this is a bad, bad idea.
“They will call you when the vehicle is done and it could be £9,000, but you don’t know what they did. Legally, there is nothing you can do because you told them to ‘do it all’. Be very careful about what you want them to do.”
