Police respond to ‘sinister stalking’ of BBC Gladiators star as he’s ‘harassed on set’

Police are currently investigating reports that star Apollo, whose real name is Alex Gray, was stalked and harassed by a woman.

The 33-year-old TV personality has allegedly been subjected to harassment both on the set in Sheffield and at his accommodation in the city.

Gray stated: “There was an incident. That’s as much as I can say, until something comes of it and there’s action taken.

“Maybe there might not be. I’m still waiting to hear. The police are doing their thing.”

The reports that the woman turned up at Alex’s place of work and where he was staying. She allegedly displayed “threatening” behaviour which left the Gladiators star “very worried”.

A source described one incident as “more sinister than a case of over-zealous fans”.

South Yorkshire Police have confirmed they are “aware of reports of a man in his 30s being subjected to stalking and harassment”, adding that “an investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing”.

According to the newspaper, the and production company Hungry Bear Media have arranged for additional “support and protection” around the Utilita Arena Sheffield and outside the rented apartment block where stars stayed during filming.

Prior to his television career, Gray played rugby union for the England rugby sevens team before switching to NFL American football.

He was one of the 16 new “superhumans” who joined the Gladiators line-up when the sports entertainment show was rebooted by the last year.

Gray as the second series of Gladiators launched on One, hosted by father and son duo Bradley and Barney Walsh.

The original American Gladiators series, which aired in the US in 1989, gained such popularity that a UK version was created in 1992, hosted by Ulrika Jonsson and footballer John Fashanu.

John, who appeared in the game show’s original ITV run, died in July last year.

At the end of the episode, his picture appeared on screen and it read: “In memory of John Anderson 1931-2024.”

A statement from the show, at the time of his death, said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our beloved referee, John Anderson, at the age of 92.

“Our hearts go out to his friends and family. John will forever be remembered as the iconic voice that brought us ‘Gladiators Ready! Contenders Ready!’.”
