The woman’s body was found at an address in Argyll Road in Woolwich.
A murder investigation has been launched after a 43-year-old woman was found dead in a south-east London flat.
Blunt force trauma and head injury were given as the cause of death at a post-mortem examination that was held on Saturday, the Metropolitan Police said.
Detectives believe the woman knew her attacker and are trying to find “a named individual”, DCI Suzanne Soren of Specialist Crime South said.
The woman was found after officers were called to the Argyll Road, Woolwich flat at around 5.25pm on Friday.
Police had been alerted by a report of concerns for the occupant’s welfare.
DCI Soren said: “This is a deeply tragic incident and our thoughts are very much with the victim’s family, who are being supported by specialist officers.
“At this early stage we believe the suspect was known to the victim and we are carrying out urgent inquiries to trace a named individual.”
No further details were given about the suspect.
The woman’s next of kin have been informed, but formal identification has yet to take place.
Police appealed for anyone with information which could help the investigation to call 101 quoting ref: CAD 5231/17Jan.
