Lawyers for quiz show have been forced to step in when host makes a mistake.
Though it’s one of the most beloved game shows on TV – and has been going a good 15 years – it seems Bradley has a script to stick to, despite his hilarious one-liners and cheeky jibes at the contestants.
The star explained to Radio Times: “If there is a slight misread, I am stopped immediately, bang, by the lawyers. We have the compliance lawyers in the studio all the time.
“What you have to do is go back to the start of the question, literally on video tape where my mouth opens, or where it’s closed from the previous question, and the question is re-asked. It is stopped to the split second.”
Lawyers have to be in the studio during filming in case of slip-ups during questions, which can be unfair to the contestants and leave viewers at home questioning the integrity of the show – or calling it biased.

The Chase has lawyers on-set during filming
Bradley gave one example as when was up against a team of four, and caught them mere seconds before they were set to rush home with the prize pot.
Bradley isn’t allowed to see the questions before filming, meaning he’s more prone to blunders while reading unfamiliar names – like when he mispronounced the name Fanny Chmelar.
He explained the intervention from lawyers means “no time is lost for either the contestants or the Chaser.”
Mark Labbett had lawyers intervene during a tense moment
He said it takes around 3.6 to 4 seconds to ask a question, adding: “You have to be at such a speed: If you’re a contestant and I go, ‘What’s… the capital… of France…’ they’d be dead and buried in 30 seconds.”
As well as lawyers being on hand, the show uses Beyond Dispute to generate its questions – a professional monitoring company that randomly selects questions to ensure the show’s integrity.
Beyond Dispute also works on shows like The 1% Club, and Beat the Chasers.
